These are my Hairsticks, again at the Stirling Renaissance Festival. I display the sticks in wooden bowls filled with rice.
There are literally thousands of Hairsticks in my booth, and I make every pair.

I've never gotten the hang of hairsticks :( My hair is really thick and straight and likes to stay straight. I can talk it into a ponytail and clip it up with a giant toothy clip but that's about it.

How much do you charge per pair?

The trick with thick hair is to break it into more pieces. Surprisingly, it IS harder to put up thick hair in sticks. How long is your hair? The longer it is the more you can do with it, but if your thick hair isn't at least to your shoulders, you can't use sticks at all. Shoulder length thick hair will go into a French twist, or you could try partial styles, like a knot made with the front half of your hair.

The sticks start at $19 a pair, and come with instructions on their use. I have shipped them across the pond a couple of times, if you want a pair.

At the moment? Very long. It nearly tickles my elbows. I need to get it trimmed though. I've been using the same hairdresser since I was in nappies, and now I've moved out properly I have to find a new one, and it's scary...

I will certainly put a pair on my to-buy-once-I-have-a-job list. *sighs*

Oh man, this makes me wish I had long hair again. It was down past the middle of my back at its longest. Unfortunately I got so sick of the fact that I never managed any style with it other than a ponytail that I cut it off (it's about chin-length now). My hair is thick, wavy, and unruly, and I definitely have a love-hate relationship with it. :D

Short hair is a correctable condition! But like many cures, the long treatment time can be frustrating. If you decide to grow your hair longer again, the first styles you will be able to do are the French twist, and partial styles, like a knot with half of your hair. If you get it to shoulder length, you will be able to these. Then I can sell you sticks. I wish you were closer, so I could teach you how to use them.

Sorry about the sales pitch, but it is just instinct at this point. My customers call me everything from "The Hairstick Lady" or "The Hairstick Goddess" to "that chick that sells the Hair Crack". Hairsticks are addictive.

Good luck with that job hunt. It is one of the hardest things to do, and I wish you well.

LOL at "that chick that sells the Hair Crack"!

I've run the gammut from super short hair to super long (see my latest journal entry for ramblings on this very subject). When I had long hair I was always just happy to manage a smooth ponytail - the skill to use other hair accessories just would not come to me. I definitely would need someone to show me how...
